Spine and Posture Tips for Travelers

If you'll be traveling by plane, be sure to invest in a travel pillow—especially if you have a long flight. The last thing you want is to fall asleep on the plane without proper support along your upper (cervical) spine, as this can lead to serious neck pain and stiffness that could put a damper on your trip. A cheap travel pillow will make all the difference in providing you with the proper support.

If you'll be traveling by car, make sure to take frequent breaks. Ideally, you should stop every few hours to get out of the car, stretch out, and walk around a bit. Also, be mindful of your posture while in the car; avoid slouching while behind-the-wheel, as this will lead to back pain.

No matter how you're traveling, be careful of lifting heavy luggage and try to find time once you arrive at your destination to do some light stretching. This will help to loosen up any muscles that may have become stiff during travel. And if your hotel has a spa, consider treating yourself to a massage!
